If you want to control your stress, then you need to control your brain. Negative thoughts in your mind are responsible for your stress and you can do something about this. When a stress trigger happens, it starts a negative thought spiral in your head. This will cause your stress levels to rise as you react to the trigger.

Your Subconscious Mind is Powerful

You have two minds which are your conscious and subconscious. Your conscious mind is awake when you are and has to deal with thousands of thoughts every day. The way that your conscious mind handles these thoughts is very important.

Your conscious mind is the gatekeeper to your subconscious. It controls what goes into your subconscious and what stays out. Why is this important? Because your subconscious stores all of your beliefs and habits.

Breathing is controlled by your subconscious mind. You never have to think about breathing, do you? We would never be able to sleep if we relied on our conscious minds to remind us to breathe. It is all taken care of on autopilot by the subconscious mind.

When you drive your car, you do not have to think consciously about what you are doing. This is the case when you are learning to drive. But in a short time, your subconscious remembers everything that you need to do to drive a car and you do it on autopilot.

All of your habits, good and bad, are stored in your subconscious mind. So, when a habit is triggered then your subconscious takes over and directs your thoughts and actions. Suffering from stress is a bad habit. Your subconscious has been programmed to react in a specific way to the triggers that you experience.

You can Reprogram your Subconscious

A habit that resides in your subconscious can be changed. It is not easy to do this but it is possible. If your subconscious hears something often enough from your conscious mind and there is emotion attached to it, it will make the necessary changes.

This is very important for you to know. Effective stress management includes the reprogramming of your subconscious so it will react in a different way when you are confronted by stress triggers. You have probably heard of people being cured of phobias before. They achieve this through the reprogramming of their subconscious.

Your Thoughts determine who you are

Everything that you have or don’t have in your life today is due to your thoughts. Thoughts drive actions and behaviors. It may seem that things are happening automatically, but there is always a thought involved when you do something.

When you experience a negative thought caused by a stress trigger you can neutralize this with a positive thought. It will take practice and consistent effort to get this right but it does work. By continually neutralizing negative thoughts you will gradually reduce the number of them that you experience.

You are training your subconscious mind to change things. Instead of reacting in the same way to a negative thought pattern, constantly neutralizing will reduce the effectiveness of negative thoughts. This is a very effective way to manage your stress.

Your brain is very powerful and if you do not control it then you are going to find it very difficult to reduce your stress. Thought control is the answer. Force your conscious mind to make the necessary changes in your subconscious for effective stress management.
